CONTEXT YOU CAN USE

How CallRecords Works

From an unfamiliar number to a better-informed decision.

01

Search a Number

Enter a 10-digit US telephone number, including its area code.

02

Check Public Complaint Data

Check the available complaint summaries for a reported caller ID.

03

Review Activity

Compare counts, call types, categories and reporting history in our published summaries.

04

Make Your Own Decision

Caller ID can be spoofed. Treat complaint history as context, rather than proof of who called.

IMPORTANT CONTEXT

Caller ID Can Be Spoofed

The number on your screen doesn't always tell the whole story.

A caller can manipulate the caller ID displayed on your phone. A complaint associated with a number does not necessarily establish that the subscriber assigned to that number placed the call.

Use the data as a signal to investigate. Verify unexpected requests through a contact method you already trust.

Public Reports, Practical Insights

CallRecords organizes publicly available unwanted-call complaints into number summaries, reporting trends and comparisons by location and call topic.

Reports are consumer-submitted and are not verified by CallRecords as proof that a number originated a particular call.

GOOD QUESTIONS

A Little More
Clarity

What these reports tell you.
And what they don't.

Explore our data approach

It is a consumer-submitted complaint describing an unwanted call. Public records may include the reported caller ID, complaint and call dates, topic, consumer location and whether the call was a robocall.

No. A complaint is an unverified consumer report, not proof of wrongdoing. Caller ID may be spoofed, and the assigned subscriber may not have placed the call.

Yes. A caller can alter the number or name shown on your phone. A familiar area code or a complaint associated with a displayed number does not verify who placed a call.

We analyze publicly available consumer complaint records. Our summaries group reports by caller ID, date, call topic and location. Area-code labels use a NANPA reference; they do not verify where a call originated.

CallRecords recalculates its summaries after new records have been successfully imported. Check Latest Data Snapshot for our actual reporting date and calculation time; it may differ from today's date.

It means the consumer marked the call as a prerecorded message or robocall. Live calls are shown separately; reports without that information remain unspecified.

Phone lookups check all accepted records in our imported dataset, including numbers outside the most-reported lists. A number may have no matching reports or none in your selected date window. Our coverage depends on imported public complaint records; it does not include every unwanted call. Absence of a report is not proof of safety.

No. Consumer complaint records are not a subscriber directory. We show complaint activity associated with reported caller IDs, not verified names, addresses or ownership records.
